Off The Record was founded in 1992 to meet the needs of young people by providing a high quality counselling service. Since then we’ve grown to incorporate training services and other projects targeted at young people.
We believe that all young people have the right to free and accessible advice, information and counselling to help alleviate the burden of social, cultural and economic oppression.
We are striving to achieve this by maintaining an independent, free, confidential counselling service that is centrally based for all young people between the ages of 10 and 25 who live in Tameside and 13 to 25 in Oldham.
As members of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy we follow their code of ethics and practice for counsellors. All our counsellors are trained and will treat young people as individuals; respect their opinions and not judge them.
Please Note – Due to the coronavirus outbreak –
We have taken the difficult decision to CANCEL all face to face appointments. Gemma will be contacting clients shortly to offer telephone counselling with your usual counsellor, in place of your face-to-face session. This would be held at the same time as your usual session.
We will update all clients as and when we can, in line with government guidelines.
Off The Record’s Wednesday Drop-In in Hyde will become a phone contact only service starting Wednesday 1st April 2020. If you wish to speak to a counsellor, please call 0161 355 3553 between the hours of 3.00pm to 5.45pm. This service will begin 1st April and will continue until further notice.

We also have a Child Sexual Exploitation project, offering counselling for 11 –21 year olds living in Tameside.
