What does the Counsellor Do?

The counsellor is there to listen to all kinds of things and won’t judge you or tell other people unless you or someone else is in danger.  They will try to understand you and will not tell you what to do.   Counselling is not advice.

How often will I have an appointment?

Sessions are usually once a week at the same day/time, but some people find one session is all they need to clear their thinking and decide what to do.   You and your counsellor will decide the number of sessions that are right for you.

How long is a session?

Sessions usually last between 50 minutes and 1 hour.

What if I miss a session?

Don’t worry if you can’t make an appointment just let us know and we can re-book you.   However, you must not keep cancelling your appointments, as it is important for you that you see your counsellor on a regular basis.

Is what I say confidential?

Yes, we won’t tell anyone what you say to us unless we think you or other people are in danger.  We will tell you more about this when you come.

Do I need to do anything before my first session?

Before your first session, you may find it will help if you think about how you want us to help you.   For example do you want to feel better about something in the past or do you want to make a change to your life now?
